Festive Christmas Home Decorating Ideas

August 1st, 2011

Decorating your home for Christmas can be fun but it can also turn disastrous because it consumes time and money, and it may even cause a fuss. Here are several tricks you can do to make your Christmas home decorating easier and cheaper yet still enjoyable.

1. Hang wreaths on all doors and front windows

If you are a creative kind of person, you can make your own wreaths using all sorts of elements around you. Pine cones, holly leaves, cinnamon barks, bows, flowers, small bags of potpourri, baubles, candy, or perhaps berries are inexpensive and you can easily find them everywhere. They also make your wreaths unique and cheerful. Unfortunately, some of the materials are not meant to be kept for long-term storage. It is great if you have artificial wreaths which can be stored and reused for future Christmases. You can redecorate them every year to get a different look.

2. Place ribbons in every corner of your house

Ribbons tied into bows can add a cheerful mood to your home. Tie bows on your dining chairs and table, stairways, plants inside and outside the house, silverware, or anywhere you can think of. Red and green are the basic Christmas colors, but you can use others as well. Gold, silver, as well as floral patterned ribbons work well for creating a festive ambiance. Untie the bows and store the ribbons properly after the holiday is over so that you can use them again for future celebrations. » Read more: Festive Christmas Home Decorating Ideas

Cake Decorating Ideas For Adult Parties

August 1st, 2011

Cake decorating birthday cakes for adults differs somewhat from a kid’s party. Decorating adult cakes isn’t implying they must be uninteresting or ugly. It also doesn’t require that you be an expert at it. You will need a few basic supplies that include piping bags, food coloring, assorted nozzles, and metal spatulas for smoothing the icing. Once your supplies are gathered, you can try the following ideas.

Over the Hill Graveyard

An over-the-hill party theme is a good idea for fiftieth birthday parties. Prepare and cook two cakes in a roasting pan. Turn the frosting gray by mixing two drops each of red and green food coloring with white icing. Lay the cake on a board and frost the whole thing. Make a sidewalk with thin, black licorice and set candy corn on the outer borders. Decorate rectangular cookies with gray frosting for headstones. You will be able to use the gummy skeletons from Halloween or make your own out of toothpicks with jelly beans for heads. You can make ghosts from cotton balls but be certain no cotton gets in the icing. You may want to glue them and the skeletons on a Popsicle stick.

Crunchy Rice Cereal Dessert

Make two batches of marshmallow rice cereal treats in two square baking pans going by the instructions given on the cereal box. After they are cooled, remove them from the pans as they are. Cover the bottom layer with frosting and chocolate chips and then another layer of frosting with sprinkles. Top it with another layer of icing. Set the second layer of treats on top and frost it as you would normally. Cover it with chocolate coated candy and even spell out the recipient’s name with them. » Read more: Cake Decorating Ideas For Adult Parties
